Sunday Morning Youth Programs

Fifth Sunday Worship

Whenever a month has a fifth Sunday, children and youth remain in Meeting for Worship for the entire hour, worshipping alongside one another.

Worshipping Together

An intergenerational community

An intergenerational community

Whenever a month has a fifth Sunday, children and youth remain in Meeting for Worship for the entire hour. These Sundays offer an opportunity for us to practice being an intergenerational community and to experience worship alongside one another.

Worship on these Sundays begins with a period of settling silence. Following this, a Friend offers a brief prepared message or ministry. This may take the form of a story, a poem, a query, or an introduction to a grounding practice such as walking a finger labyrinth. We then return to Waiting Worship together, making space for silence and, when it arises, vocal ministry from members and attenders of all ages.

Grounding tools in worship

An intergenerational community

A variety of grounding tools are available throughout worship, including coloring mandalas, settling jars, yarn for finger weaving, and other simple materials. These are not intended to distract from worship, but to support it. We recognize that people enter worship in many different ways, and that our bodies can sometimes help us settle more deeply into silence, presence, and connection with Spirit.

This is one of the ways we affirm that children are not preparing for participation in Meeting for Worship someday — they are part of our worshipping community today.
