In the world we currently live in, for Quakers with monetary resources, there is often a challenge to understand how we can morally participate in the financial world. This is an issue that can arise in any discussion of how we move in the world to support the work we believe in, to decide if or how we might expand/change our current building to fit our needs, or to simply think about how best to reflect our values in the money that supports us. AFSC offers a tool to evaluate investments around a number of key issues that involve human rights abuses, such as prisons.
As P&SC is looking at the work of the Meeting in prison reform and support for those in prisons (College Guild or Alternatives to Violence Project), evaluation of our investments to divest in anything that holds stock in private prisons seems important. It is something we can do in our individual lives as well.
