Staff & Volunteers

Our program is held by a paid staff person and a large circle of volunteers.

How Sunday Mornings Work

A team that holds the program

Albuquerque Monthly Meeting's Children's Program is held by a team of one paid staff person, Curriculum Coordinator Elizabeth Freyman, and a large circle of volunteers, including teen group leader Kody Hersh, members of the Children's Program Committee, and other adult volunteers.

On Sunday mornings during the school year, younger children typically gather with Elizabeth and an adult volunteer in our main First Day School space, while older youth (middle and high school) meet with Kody and a second adult in their own room. During the summer, pairs of volunteers take turns leading a Sunday morning activity, discussion, or craft for any young people who prefer not to remain in worship.

Supervision is provided for children and youth at some other events, such as teen movie night. At all other times, including during our family camping trips and other outings, each child is the responsibility of their parent or caregiver.

Meet the Facilitators

Elizabeth Freyman

Elizabeth has spent over two decades accompanying children and families in a variety of educational and spiritual settings. Her experience includes work in Montessori and Waldorf classrooms, as well as training in respectful infant care inspired by the work of Dr. Emmi Pikler and Magda Gerber. Throughout her career, she has been drawn to approaches that honor children's competence, dignity, and capacity for wonder.

Elizabeth's understanding of children's spiritual lives has been deeply shaped by her work with the Godly Play and Faith & Play foundations, which hold that children are already in relationship with the Spirit of Love and Mystery and invite adults to approach them with humility and curiosity. She is a certified Faith & Play trainer and has shared this work with communities throughout the Intermountain West.

At Albuquerque Monthly Meeting, Elizabeth is grateful for the opportunity to walk alongside young people and their families as they explore questions of faith, practice, belonging, and community together.

Kody Hersh (he/they)

Kody grew up in Miami Friends Meeting, where he was first introduced to spiritual community and religious education as a child crawling under the chairs during meeting for worship. He loves working with middle and high schoolers because of their eagerness to question, dig deep, and push against established norms — often with a lot of laughter along the way.

In 2025, Kody left their role as Young Adult and Youth Ministries Coordinator for Friends General Conference (an umbrella organization of Quakers in North America) to start Trans Youth Coaching. They are absurdly obsessed with their little dog.
